Hiwonder claims the Standard kit uses ROS, has 24 DOF, and can perform vision-guided line following, tracking, ball shooting and picking; conditions and reliability are not established.

Three proposed tasks. Ten attempts at each suitable task, with the outcome, time and human help recorded. Confirm the exact robot, software and safe setup first. These tasks are not evidence that this robot can do them.
Perform one documented movement
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Return to the starting pose on command
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Repeat the movement on a permitted surface
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Pick a square to see what each attempt will record.
We will record the outcome, time, control mode, human help, safety stops, exact hardware and software, conditions and full video.
Proposed attempt; not run Only proceed if the exact unit supports the task and the setup is suitable. Keep remote control, scripted operation and autonomous operation separate. A completed attempt alone does not prove autonomy. What each square will show
Keep the conditions visible
Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.
Capability
What can it actually do?
The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.
Read the source-based assessmentReadiness
Could you use it in real life?
Intended use: Vision-guided walking and picking. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. Separate Pi 5 instructions and the Standard packing list. Described hands are not proof of hands in every box.
Read the source-based assessmentThis is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.
02 / Can it actually do it?
The claims, with their context.
The wording below keeps each source’s limits. A demonstration, a maker’s claim and a repeatable real-world result are different things.
The Pi 5 manual describes Ubuntu 20.04 and ROS Noetic and claims OpenCV and PID-based tasks. This is specific to that documented configuration.

Every source keeps its original check date. Manufacturer information, research configurations and independent observations have different limits.

Meet Hiwonder AiNex
This guide distinguishes AiNex Starter (20 DOF) and Standard (24 DOF). The separately documented Raspberry Pi 5 manual describes a 24-DOF configuration; the product table lists BCM2711. Confirm the board and software against the exact order, and do not transfer configuration-specific claims.

04 / Living with it
Right robot, right expectations.
What ownership could involve
Confirm Starter or Standard, Raspberry Pi board, included hands, preinstalled software and source-code access before ordering. ROS and Python work, charging, maintenance and setup require technical skill. Check the correct battery instructions for the supplied revision; keep the operating space clear of people and obstacles. Network use, camera data handling, spare parts, UK support and warranty terms remain unverified. Obtain the matching operating-system image and recovery procedure, then time installation and calibration on the supplied board. A successful Gazebo exercise should be recorded separately from a physical trial.
Support, software and repairs
Use the Raspberry Pi 5 manual rather than an older board image. Its charging text gives both around one hour and around three hours, so confirm the current battery/charger combination. Obtain restore images, servo calibration instructions, replacement servo/battery part numbers and warranty terms. Example competition behaviours require setup and safe supervision.
Questions still open
What needs checking before you decide.
- Claims are not observed task completions; no footage reviewed.
- Kit packing lists are images in the product page and have not been independently decoded; hand inclusion and exact version contents require confirmation.
- No UK price, availability or delivered configuration verified.
- No evidence of household assistance or a general safety certification.
- Maker text describes hands but also says Standard can be expanded with hands; their inclusion in a delivered kit is unconfirmed.
