Tesla describes its end goal as a general-purpose, bipedal autonomous humanoid to perform unsafe, repetitive or boring tasks; the statement is an objective and does not establish task completion.

Three proposed tasks. Ten attempts at each suitable task, with the outcome, time and human help recorded. Confirm the exact robot, software and safe setup first. These tasks are not evidence that this robot can do them.

We will record the outcome, time, control mode, human help, safety stops, exact hardware and software, conditions and full video.
Proposed attempt; not run Only proceed if the exact unit supports the task and the setup is suitable. Keep remote control, scripted operation and autonomous operation separate. A completed attempt alone does not prove autonomy. What each square will show
Keep the conditions visible
Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

What the evidence supports.
Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.
Capability
What can it actually do?
Tesla Optimus is a named humanoid project worth tracking for its potential effect on robotics. Tesla reports that production has started, but a production statement does not show that customers can buy or safely use a particular model. This profile covers the family, not a verified individual unit or generation.
Read the source-based assessmentReadiness
Could you use it in real life?
Intended use: Humanoid task development. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. The entry is a family-level project, not an exact tested generation. Production statements cannot settle consumer availability or readiness.
Read the source-based assessmentThis is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.
02 / Can it actually do it?
The claims, with their context.
The wording below keeps each source’s limits. A demonstration, a maker’s claim and a repeatable real-world result are different things.
In its 21 October 2026 update Tesla states Optimus production began on high-volume lines in Fremont and describes the robots as its first production-quality units; California status is early ramp. It anticipates further hardware and process iteration.
Source 2In January 2026 Tesla planned a Gen 3 unveiling and described that design as intended for mass production. This was a dated plan and does not identify the hardware in its later October production statement.

Every source keeps its original check date. Manufacturer information, research configurations and independent observations have different limits.

An omitted measurement is unknown in this review, not zero or unsupported. Check the exact hardware edition and documentation before ordering or designing around it.

Meet Tesla Optimus
Tesla calls the humanoid Tesla Optimus; a retained Tesla page also labels an image “Tesla Bot”, but the sources retained here do not establish the generation of the current production robot. Do not conflate an early prototype, a production-line generation and a robot hardware generation. One family-level reference is proposed for the library; it does not resolve the precise configuration or attach earlier prototype features to current units. In January 2026 Tesla planned to unveil Gen 3, describing it as a design intended for mass production; its October production update does not identify the generation of the robots on that line.

Right robot, right expectations.
What ownership could involve
No verified customer offer or model-specific ownership terms were established. Purchase price, regions, delivery, maintenance, support, training, connectivity, data handling, supervision and emergency procedures remain unknown. For a prospective user, the key questions are how a particular version is supervised, what tasks are supported, how it is powered and stopped, and who maintains it. Until a real offer and applicable documentation are available, a reader cannot make a reliable purchase or deployment assessment. Factory ramp statements do not establish the price, availability or warranty of a household robot.
Support, software and repairs
Do not combine different Optimus demonstrations into a single orderable specification. An exact generation, payload/runtime test conditions, SDK access, consumer ordering route, warranty and service package are not established by this page. Treat videos as demonstrations of the identified version, not proof of general unattended household capability.
Questions still open
What needs checking before you decide.
- Production status is not evidence of customer deliveries, specific performance or safety certification.
- Exact hardware generation, revision, software version and production configuration unknown.
- No footage directly reviewed; control mode, assistance, task success and recovery remain unassessed.
