Three proposed tasks. Ten attempts at each suitable task, with the outcome, time and human help recorded. Confirm the exact robot, software and safe setup first. These tasks are not evidence that this robot can do them.

We will record the outcome, time, control mode, human help, safety stops, exact hardware and software, conditions and full video.
Proposed attempt; not run Only proceed if the exact unit supports the task and the setup is suitable. Keep remote control, scripted operation and autonomous operation separate. A completed attempt alone does not prove autonomy. What each square will show
Keep the conditions visible
Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

What the evidence supports.
Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.
Capability
What can it actually do?
The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.
Read the source-based assessmentReadiness
Could you use it in real life?
Intended use: App driving and introductory coding. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. A compatible device and non-replaceable battery affect long-term usefulness. Small size does not establish obstacle or edge safety.
Read the source-based assessmentThis is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.
02 / Can it actually do it?
The claims, with their context.
The wording below keeps each source’s limits. A demonstration, a maker’s claim and a repeatable real-world result are different things.
Check the original sources
Every source keeps its original check date. Manufacturer information, research configurations and independent observations have different limits.

Meet Sphero Mini
Sphero Mini is the small spherical model, distinct from BOLT+, indi and the tracked RVR+. The manufacturer product page lists individual colours and bundles; confirm the purchased colour, accessories and hardware revision. This profile does not infer BOLT+ display or indi screen-free behaviour.

04 / Living with it
Right robot, right expectations.
What ownership could involve
A compatible phone, tablet or computer and the relevant Sphero Play or Edu app are needed; check current operating-system and browser support before purchase. Remove the shell to connect the micro-USB cable, then replace it before driving. The maker says the internal battery cannot be replaced, which affects useful life; confirm warranty and disposal arrangements. Keep the robot dry and away from ledges. Sphero’s product page recommends supervision under eight because the opening shell exposes small parts, while its FAQ says it is designed for ages eight and over and to keep it away from younger children and pets. Follow the more cautious guidance. Desktoy and Face Drive are no longer supported according to the maker. Check app privacy and account requirements for the chosen activity.
Support, software and repairs
Charging uses micro-USB after opening the shell; the shell is required for driving. The maker advises dry-cloth cleaning and avoiding water or liquids. Only one Mini is controlled at a time through the named apps. Check current device/app compatibility and warranty arrangements before buying older stock.
Questions still open
What needs checking before you decide.
- The maker page displayed US $50 on 28 October 2026; colour and bundle selection, tax, shipping and UK availability need confirmation.
- Performance, connection reliability and battery life have not been independently tested.
- Do not infer capability from discontinued app modes or other Sphero models.
