Unitree lists a monocular camera for AIR and binocular cameras for R1 and EDU. It lists four arm degrees of freedom per arm for AIR and five for the other two.

Three proposed tasks. Ten attempts at each suitable task, with the outcome, time and human help recorded. Confirm the exact robot, software and safe setup first. These tasks are not evidence that this robot can do them.
Complete one documented movement or manipulation task
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Repeat the task from the same starting setup
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Record all help needed to start and finish
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Pick a square to see what each attempt will record.
We will record the outcome, time, control mode, human help, safety stops, exact hardware and software, conditions and full video.
Proposed attempt; not run Only proceed if the exact unit supports the task and the setup is suitable. Keep remote control, scripted operation and autonomous operation separate. A completed attempt alone does not prove autonomy. What each square will show
Keep the conditions visible
Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

What the evidence supports.
Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.
Capability
What can it actually do?
The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.
Read the source-based assessmentReadiness
Could you use it in real life?
Intended use: Compact humanoid development. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. Resolve editions and the kg-versus-torque row before comparing loads. Compact size does not establish household readiness.
Read the source-based assessmentThis is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.
02 / Can it actually do it?
The claims, with their context.
The wording below keeps each source’s limits. A demonstration, a maker’s claim and a repeatable real-world result are different things.
The table marks secondary development YES for EDU and shows slashes for AIR and R1; it lists a choice of high-power computing modules for EDU. Slash meaning, access rights and included hardware remain unconfirmed.
Source 1Unitree lists approximately one hour of battery life for all three editions, while noting that parameters can vary with configuration and circumstances and that some example functions remain in development.
Source 1Unitree lists R1 AIR, R1 and R1 EDU with 20, 26 and 26–40 total joint degrees of freedom respectively. The table marks a dexterous hand optional for EDU; this does not establish what a particular supplied robot includes.

Every source keeps its original check date. Manufacturer information, research configurations and independent observations have different limits.

Specifications and configuration
The figures and features below come from the named sources. They are not independent measurements. Optional hardware and conflicting revisions are kept separate.

An omitted measurement is unknown in this review, not zero or unsupported. Check the exact hardware edition and documentation before ordering or designing around it.

Meet Unitree R1
Keep the bipedal R1 AIR, R1 and R1 EDU editions separate from the R1-A and R1-A-D dual-arm systems and the separately marketed R1 robotic arm. Unitree lists AIR at 20 joints and about 27 kg with battery, standard R1 at 26 joints and about 29 kg, and EDU at 26–40 joints and about 29 kg. The maker lists optional dexterous hands only for EDU; do not infer that a hand is included.

04 / Living with it
Right robot, right expectations.
What ownership could involve
Choose the task before choosing an edition. For a research project, obtain the current development documentation and check the precise access rights, computer and end effector required. For a household trial, establish which tasks work without a human controlling or resetting the robot. A stated battery figure is not a guarantee of useful work time. Ask for a written local offer covering the actual edition, support, warranty and any additional equipment. Use a clear operating area and record interventions. Unitree cautions users to maintain a sufficient safety distance; small size does not make the machine harmless. No observed performance grade follows from the specification. A repeatable trial should report the software build, operator role and failed attempts alongside successes.
Support, software and repairs
Warranty table: six months AIR, eight R1 and twelve EDU, subject to detailed terms. The table incorrectly labels a kilogram figure as torque; do not treat it as a torque specification. Confirm hands, compute, SDK, spare joints/batteries and delivered motions. Lower headline price does not include EDU tools, tax or shipping.
Questions still open
What needs checking before you decide.
- No task footage viewed and no independent repeated-use evidence assessed.
- The page’s arm-load row is labelled as torque but gives kg; its meaning and test conditions need clarification.
- Edition-specific control and software details, regional availability and household readiness remain unverified.
