The manufacturer describes the full-size Gen 2 configuration as a programmable interaction robot for entertainment, education and engagement, with 61 actuated degrees of freedom and microphones, cameras and a speaker.

An expressive humanoid for visitor engagement and managed installations. It suits conversation projects; convincing facial movement is not evidence of walking, carrying or household work.

Three proposed tasks. Ten attempts at each suitable task, with the outcome, time and human help recorded. Confirm the exact robot, software and safe setup first. These tasks are not evidence that this robot can do them.
Complete one supported service task
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Repeat with a second supported destination or input
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Restart the task and record all operator help
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Pick a square to see what each attempt will record.
We will record the outcome, time, control mode, human help, safety stops, exact hardware and software, conditions and full video.
Proposed attempt; not run Only proceed if the exact unit supports the task and the setup is suitable. Keep remote control, scripted operation and autonomous operation separate. A completed attempt alone does not prove autonomy. What each square will show
Keep the conditions visible
Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

What the evidence supports.
Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.
Capability
What can it actually do?
The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.
Read the source-based assessmentReadiness
Could you use it in real life?
Intended use: Managed expressive interaction. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. Facial realism does not establish walking or household handling. Resolve current generation and source access before stronger claims.
Read the source-based assessmentThis is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.
02 / Can it actually do it?
The claims, with their context.
The wording below keeps each source’s limits. A demonstration, a maker’s claim and a repeatable real-world result are different things.
The Drawing Edition uses a non-standard arm and hand, a custom whiteboard drawing stand, extra electronics and custom software. Its pen is attached and uncapped manually; drawings come from a pre-programmed library.
Source 2The full-size manual specifies indoor operation and says the robot is not designed to provide important factual information such as medical diagnoses or fire escape directions.
Source 1The indexed AG2 manual says the robot is not designed for physical interaction with people, animals or objects except manufacturer-supplied or approved accessories. Confirm applicability to the actual unit; do not automatically transfer this limitation to another edition.

Meet Engineered Arts Ameca
The manufacturer documentation identifies the full-size Ameca in the Mesmer Full Size Gen 2 manual. Keep this distinct from Ameca Desktop and the specially modified Drawing Edition. A specific robot may differ in modules, control software and accessories; verify its actual configuration before applying manual figures. The manual specifies product code AG2; applicability to a proposed unit still needs checking.

04 / Living with it
Right robot, right expectations.
What ownership could involve
A prospective operator should agree the exact edition, installation, power, transport, maintenance, software access and support with the manufacturer. The Drawing Edition documentation describes a dedicated board and calibration; its result should not be treated as a general grasping demonstration. For an event, check who supervises interactions, what the robot is allowed to say, how personal data and microphones are handled, and the plan when the network or software fails. Human staff must remain responsible for consequential information. No independent assessment of conversational accuracy, safety or ongoing operating cost has been made. Price and current regional availability remain unverified.
Support, software and repairs
The specification lists Ethernet and describes Wi-Fi as forthcoming. Indoor limits are 10–30°C and 45–60% humidity. Plan the documented LiDAR safety zone of at least 3.2 m diameter. Maintenance is specified every six months; one-year parts/labour cover and optional extension are described. Confirm the installation, operator training and exact regional service contract.
Questions still open
What needs checking before you decide.
- The manufacturer page could not be read directly during our check. Indexed maker text is available, but its date and exact AG2 applicability still need confirmation.
- No independent task, walking or manipulation assessment.
- Drawing Edition capabilities do not apply automatically to other configurations.
- AG2 indexed manual restricts physical interaction except approved accessories; verify current manual and unit before applying it to a different configuration.
