On the ROBODROMO
test track

We plan ten attempts at each suitable task, on everyday floors. Every attempt will be filmed, including the fails. The exact unit, setup and safe operating conditions must be agreed first.

First G1 attempts: not scheduled

Walk a set route through a doorway and over a threshold

Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.

Pick up a small box and put it on a shelf

Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run. Needs suitable EDU hands and software.

The evidence comes in four kinds. Most of this profile is based on Unitree’s own information. Pick a kind to see what’s behind it.

Manufacturer source
Weight and joints

Base G1 approximately 35 kg with battery and 23 degrees of freedom. EDU approximately 35 kg or more and 23–43 degrees of freedom, depending on options.

Manufacturer source
Arm load

Base approximately 2 kg; EDU approximately 3 kg. Unitree states that load varies substantially with arm posture.

Manufacturer source
Largest-joint torque

Maximum knee-joint figure: 90 Nm for base G1 and 120 Nm for EDU. It is not the torque of every joint.

Manufacturer source
Battery and charger

Quick-release 9,000 mAh battery; 54 V/5 A charger. Approximate two-hour endurance is a manufacturer estimate.

Manufacturer source
Perception and communications

Depth camera, 3D LiDAR, four-microphone array, 5 W speaker, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

Manufacturer source
Hands and computing

Base G1 does not list the optional dexterous hands or high-compute module. EDU offers Dex3-1 hands, optional tactile sensing and additional computing configurations.

Manufacturer source
Development and warranty

Secondary development is listed for EDU, not base G1. Maker table gives eight months for G1 and eighteen months for EDU, subject to the warranty brochure.

Further assessment notes

Evidence and practical use

Robodromo assessment

Desk assessment: 31 October 2026. Virtual G1 in BiGym 2.0; October 2026.

What the evidence describes
The retained evidence concerns simulated household manipulation. It establishes no physical household-task result for G1.
Human help and setup
Physical setup, routine assistance and recovery are unknown in this assessment.
What remains uncertain
Physical trials specifying base/EDU, hands, controller, software and interventions.
Readiness
Household readiness is not established by this evidence. Suitability as a physical developer platform needs its own assessment.

This is an assessment of documented evidence, not a Robodromo physical test. Unresolved evidence does not mean the robot cannot perform the task. Source material has not been freshly rechecked for this publication.

04 / Living with it

Right robot, right expectations.

What ownership could involve

Identify the exact edition, hands, software, operator skills and support before evaluating a purchase. Unitree cautions users to maintain distance and understand the robot’s limitations. The maker lists Explore diagnostics and calibration tools, but that is not a repair authorisation or evidence of safe self-maintenance. Confirm supplied hands, software and task functions, service region, warranty brochure and update-support end date. The Chinese-language Explore policy explicitly discusses G1 interaction and optional cloud processing; international applicability and actual network behaviour remain unverified.

Support, software and repairs

Choose the edition around the development work you intend to do. The maker lists a manual controller for both versions, but optional hands, compute and wrist/waist joints change the EDU configuration. Unitree warns that some showcased functions are still being developed. Obtain a configuration-specific quotation, manual, warranty terms, repair route and update policy; a demonstration is not a list of delivered skills.

Questions still open

What needs checking before you decide.

  • Simulation and promotional footage do not establish physical task performance.
  • No customer-ready household task or intervention rate has been established.
  • Price and supply vary by configuration and region.
  • Cloud image/video deletion wording is a policy assertion, not an audited deletion guarantee; it does not establish voice retention or international hosting.
  • Shop also offers a G1 Pro selector; this review does not map that label to the G1/EDU comparison or transfer specifications to it.
