Hiwonder TonyPi Pro

A small Raspberry Pi humanoid for coding lessons. Camera and grasping projects may suit keen learners, but check whether the advertised hands come in the box.

Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

How much do we really
know?

Separate our own tests from published claims and the limits of the evidence. The counts below describe records, not performance or confidence scores.

01 / The assessment

What the evidence supports.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.

Capability

What can it actually do?

The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.

Read the source-based assessment

Readiness

Could you use it in real life?

Intended use: Vision games and hand-assisted tasks. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. Keep body and hand joint counts separate and confirm hand inclusion. A shared kit table cannot establish supplied capability.

A clear limit

This is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.

Know the exact robot

The name alone may not tell you which hardware, software or support you get. Keep editions and optional equipment separate.

Meet Hiwonder TonyPi Pro

TonyPi Pro is a distinct offering from Tonybot and from the separately listed TonyPi. Hiwonder lists Raspberry Pi 5 memory choices and an upgrade pack; the selector does not establish the upgrade pack contents or compatibility, and these are not established robot generations. The shared TonyPi and TonyPi Pro manual should not be assumed to apply identically to every configuration. Listing SKU 21020135 is not a component fitment identifier.

04 / Living with it

Right robot, right expectations.

What ownership could involve

Verify exact Raspberry Pi memory, expansion board, hands, camera, voice and sensor modules, assembly and software image. Confirm compatible computer, app, network and setup skill. Ask which AI functions require an external provider, account, API key, fees or internet connection and where voice and images are sent. Check battery/charger, spare servos, safe operation, warranty and UK support. Upgrading an older Pi requires confirmation of expansion-board compatibility.

Support, software and repairs

The Pro documentation contains Standard and expanded packing lists; verify the selected kit and image rather than assuming every module is supplied. Hiwonder provides Python examples and tutorials. Confirm battery/runtime, servo replacements, cloud costs, update maintenance and warranty. Older Raspberry Pi versions and base TonyPi should remain separate.

Questions still open

What needs checking before you decide.

  • The descriptive passage explains 18 body DOF plus two hand DOF. The shared table still spans several kits; verify that the supplied package includes the described hands.
  • Price, current UK delivery, software entitlement, AI service charges and privacy terms remain unverified.
  • Claims of autonomy and manipulation are not independent task tests.
  • No footage directly reviewed and image reuse rights remain uncleared.
