Rainbow describes RB-Y1 as a research platform and supplies an SDK; the platform is intended for manipulation, mobility and perception research.
Source 1Rainbow Robotics RB-Y1
A wheeled two-arm platform for robotics researchers. It suits custom object-handling projects; the maker says useful work needs configuration and development, rather than a finished single-task product.

Three proposed tasks. Ten attempts at each suitable task, with the outcome, time and human help recorded. Confirm the exact robot, software and safe setup first. These tasks are not evidence that this robot can do them.
Move one suitable object between two marked positions
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Repeat with a second supported object
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Return to the starting position and repeat the sequence
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.

We will record the outcome, time, control mode, human help, safety stops, exact hardware and software, conditions and full video.
Proposed attempt; not run Only proceed if the exact unit supports the task and the setup is suitable. Keep remote control, scripted operation and autonomous operation separate. A completed attempt alone does not prove autonomy. What each square will show
Keep the conditions visible
Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.

What can it actually do?
The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.
Read the source-based assessmentReadiness
Could you use it in real life?
Intended use: Wheeled dual-arm research. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. The maker explicitly describes a platform rather than a finished task robot. Development effort is part of its intended use.
Read the source-based assessmentThis is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.
02 / Can it actually do it?
The claims, with their context.
The wording below keeps each source’s limits. A demonstration, a maker’s claim and a repeatable real-world result are different things.
Rainbow lists 3 kg payload per arm, 600 mm to the wrist plus the hand, and dimensions 600 × 690 × 1,400 mm.
Source 1The product page distinguishes V1.2 yaw-pitch-yaw and V1.3 yaw-pitch-roll wrists, says grippers are optional and the vision camera is not provided.
Source 1Rainbow's LeRobot plugin README says it supports RB-Y1 version 1.2 or lower, with version 1.3 and VR teleoperation support pending for that plugin.

Every source keeps its original check date. Manufacturer information, research configurations and independent observations have different limits.

Specifications and configuration
The figures and features below come from the named sources. They are not independent measurements. Optional hardware and conflicting revisions are kept separate.

Meet Rainbow Robotics RB-Y1
RB-Y1 belongs to the RBY series. It is wheeled, with dual arms and a single articulated lower structure; it is not a walking biped. Version 1.2 and 1.3 differ in wrist configuration and options; do not assign a revision to an unspecified unit.

Right robot, right expectations.
What ownership could involve
This is a research platform: check the exact base, wrist revision, grippers, vision hardware, SDK and software compatibility before buying or planning an experiment. The maker lists a support route but no verified regional service terms, price or delivery offer for this configuration. Its LeRobot README requires a Linux setup, Ethernet and a leader arm for the described workflow, and instructs operators to clear the work area, secure the base and know the emergency stop. These are plugin-specific instructions, not evidence of general safety certification. Confirm commissioning, guarding, maintenance, support and data handling for the intended site.
Support, software and repairs
Rainbow provides SDK/simulation resources, versioned drawings and training/support routes. The page has an inconsistent total joint count versus its component rows; confirm the order-specific drawing. A vision bracket does not include a camera. Obtain base type, battery, hand, service and warranty details. Do not apply leader-arm accessory dimensions to the robot.
Questions still open
What needs checking before you decide.
- No tested autonomous household workflow.
- Exact configuration, price and regional support unresolved.
- The product page gives 24 DOF in its narrative but its A/M table gives 20/26; the table components do not reconcile cleanly. Resolve by revision before quoting a total.
- The LeRobot README also lists 1.3 in its configuration options despite the earlier support warning. Treat plugin compatibility as unresolved until an exact release is tested.
