Three proposed tasks. Ten attempts at each suitable task, with the outcome, time and human help recorded. Confirm the exact robot, software and safe setup first. These tasks are not evidence that this robot can do them.

Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

How much do we really
know?

Separate our own tests from published claims and the limits of the evidence. The counts below describe records, not performance or confidence scores.

01 / The assessment

What the evidence supports.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.

Capability

What can it actually do?

The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.

Read the source-based assessment

Readiness

Could you use it in real life?

Intended use: Proposed puppy-like care interaction. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. Historical regulatory ambitions are not current approval. Production, delivery and clinical outcomes remain unresolved.

A clear limit

This is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.

Know the exact robot

The name alone may not tell you which hardware, software or support you get. Keep editions and optional equipment separate.

Specifications and configuration

Technical reference

Specifications and configuration

The figures and features below come from the named sources. They are not independent measurements. Optional hardware and conflicting revisions are kept separate.

Documented technical details and configuration limits
Item Documented detail Evidence
Historical prototype hardware In a 2021 article Tombot described touch sensors, head and neck motion, voice response and a rechargeable prototype. Source 1
Prototype-date limitation In October 2021 Tombot described Jennie as a fifth-generation prototype whose internals were not yet production-ready. This is a historical claim, not evidence of the current unit. Source 3

An omitted measurement is unknown in this review, not zero or unsupported. Check the exact hardware edition and documentation before ordering or designing around it.

Meet Tombot Jennie

Tombot identifies its prototype puppy as Jennie. The company’s later site discusses its first litter of Tombot puppies; that page does not name the litter Jennie, so its relationship to the historical prototype is unconfirmed. No exact production hardware revision or completed shipment is established here. Tombot separately called Jennie a fifth-generation, non-production-ready prototype in October 2021. A current company investor page also names Jennie, but it does not map the first litter to that historical prototype or a specific production revision.

04 / Living with it

Right robot, right expectations.

What ownership could involve

The maker’s 2021 prototype description included a smartphone app for configuration and software updates, but current availability, compatibility and exact unit functionality are unknown. The website says it will contact its waitlist closer to shipping with pricing and availability. Check region, cleaning instructions for the supplied revision, warranty, service and data practices. A care setting needs consent and appropriate supervision; avoid claims that the device treats dementia or replaces a professional service.

Support, software and repairs

This FAQ is a development-era source, not proof of current shipping or production warranty. It describes wipe-clean care, but final cleaning, charging and servicing instructions must come from the delivered version. Confirm production status, battery/runtime, regional availability and repair terms. Do not assume a prototype’s drop-resistance target is a certified production result.

Questions still open

What needs checking before you decide.

  • The historical article uses prototype and forward-looking regulatory language; no current FDA status or medical efficacy verified.
  • No completed production, shipping, UK support or independent task assessment established.
  • Claimed all-day battery life is not independently tested.
  • The 2021 fifth-generation description applies to a prototype; do not equate it to the later unnamed first litter.
