Elephant Robotics myBuddy 280 Pi

A small two-arm robot for coding lessons and research. Its screen and cameras offer ways to experiment, but household tasks need extra development.

How much do we really
know?

Separate our own tests from published claims and the limits of the evidence. The counts below describe records, not performance or confidence scores.

01 / The assessment

What the evidence supports.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.

Capability

What can it actually do?

The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.

Read the source-based assessment

Readiness

Could you use it in real life?

Intended use: Dual-arm educational exercises. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. Assess the Pi configuration and fitted end effectors. The Pi SP memory figure cannot settle another bundle's specification.

A clear limit

This is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.

Know the exact robot

The name alone may not tell you which hardware, software or support you get. Keep editions and optional equipment separate.

Specifications and configuration

Model detail

Specifications and configuration

Figures below retain their source and configuration limits. Manufacturer specifications are not independent performance results.

Arms

Maker lists 280 mm effective working radius and 250 g load for each arm, and ±0.5 mm repeatability; conditions are not stated.

Source 2
System

One maker myBuddy 280 introduction lists 3 kg, 24 V 9.2 A input, BCM2711 four-core 1.5 GHz processor, 4 GB memory and 32 GB card. A separately labelled Pi SP specification lists 2G RAM; the corresponding configurations and supplied unit are not reconciled.

Display and cameras

Maker describes a seven-inch display and two two-megapixel cameras; capture up to 1080p is claimed.

Source 2
Pi software scope

Pi instructions list Raspberry Pi 4B, Ubuntu 18.04 and Python/ROS/myBlockly for Pi devices; actual installed image and versions on the assessed myBuddy require verification.

Source 3
Payload

250 g maximum per the maker description; confirm attachment and working posture.

Manufacturer source
Connections and expansion

USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; 3.3 V I/O and construction-kit attachment ports.

Meet Elephant Robotics myBuddy 280 Pi

Elephant Robotics has a dedicated page headed myBuddy 280 Pi and describes a Raspberry Pi-powered dual-arm platform. Maker-hosted republished coverage also calls myBuddy 280 a shorthand for myBuddy 280 Pi. These names alone do not establish that all hardware revisions, memory options or supplied bundles are identical. No mobile base or legs are established.

04 / Living with it

Right robot, right expectations.

What ownership could involve

Confirm exact Pi designation, screen/camera configuration, supplied end effectors, operating system, keyboard/monitor needs, power, setup, regional support and replacement parts. Price and UK orderability are unverified. Camera data handling, update support and safety certification are unknown.

Support, software and repairs

Elephant Robotics links its GitBook and myStudio tool. The maker describes myStudio as providing firmware updates, video tutorials, maintenance and repair information. Accessories such as grippers and suction tools change the package; confirm what is included. No guaranteed UK repair turnaround or spare-parts stock follows from the tutorials.

Questions still open

What needs checking before you decide.

  • No observed task, operating trial or reviewed original footage.
  • Do not infer all end effectors are included or transferable from another myCobot model.
  • No evidence of household independence or safe unsupervised use.
  • One maker page lists 4 GB memory, while a separately labelled Pi SP table lists 2G; do not assign either figure to an unidentified supplied configuration.
