Ohbot describes the 2.2 as an eight-motor programmable head that can move, speak and sense when programmed.

Three proposed tasks. Ten attempts at each suitable task, with the outcome, time and human help recorded. Confirm the exact robot, software and safe setup first. These tasks are not evidence that this robot can do them.

We will record the outcome, time, control mode, human help, safety stops, exact hardware and software, conditions and full video.
Proposed attempt; not run Only proceed if the exact unit supports the task and the setup is suitable. Keep remote control, scripted operation and autonomous operation separate. A completed attempt alone does not prove autonomy. What each square will show
Keep the conditions visible
Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.

What can it actually do?
The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.

Could you use it in real life?
Intended use: Programmed facial movement and speech. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. The connected computer and configured speech software are part of the system. Head interaction is not mobile assistance.
Read the source-based assessmentThis is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.
02 / Can it actually do it?
The claims, with their context.
The wording below keeps each source’s limits. A demonstration, a maker’s claim and a repeatable real-world result are different things.
The assembled 2.2 listing includes a USB-C cable and a one-year Windows OhbotApp2 licence; the maker also offers a Python library and Scratch website.
Source 1The maker describes speech and facial movement as programmable functions; microphones, cameras, software services and configuration must be checked for an intended interaction.

Every source keeps its original check date. Manufacturer information, research configurations and independent observations have different limits.

Meet Ohbot 2.2 Assembled
Ohbot Ltd’s preassembled Ohbot 2.2 is a desktop robotic head with headroll. It is distinct from the self-assembly 2.2 kit, Picoh and Xyloh. The manufacturer’s older 2.1 kit is described as seven-motor; the current 2.2 getting-started guide describes eight. Do not assume earlier machines have the eighth motor or that upgrades fit every controller.

04 / Living with it
Right robot, right expectations.
What ownership could involve
A compatible computer and USB connection are required during use. OhbotApp2 requires Windows and the assembled pack includes a one-year licence; check renewal cost and the functions available afterwards. Python and Scratch offer different routes with their own setup and feature limits. Camera, microphone, internet or paid services may be needed for particular projects; check actual configuration, privacy and data handling before recording or using cloud features. Keep the head dry, protect exposed electronics and never obstruct powered motors. Allow adult support for setup and troubleshooting. The maker lists parts, but repair availability and compatibility with a specific revision need confirmation. The getting-started guide warns against connecting through a USB-A adaptor because power may be insufficient.
Support, software and repairs
The maker sells small/large servos and controller accessories, providing a practical repair route. Confirm the exact compatible part before ordering. GPT blocks have usage limits; renewal is separate from the robot hardware. Python and Scratch platform support differs from the Windows application. Check warranty and whether your classroom needs a site licence.
Questions still open
What needs checking before you decide.
- The manufacturer product page displayed £224 and £268.80 including VAT on 28 October 2026. The extract does not explicitly label the tax basis of £224; neither figure proves current stock, delivery or total cost.
- Older seven-motor guidance must not be applied to 2.2 or to an upgraded unit without identifying its controller and configuration.
- No independent assessment of speech, recognition, movement accuracy or sustained classroom use was reviewed.
