Petoi Nybble Q

A cat-shaped robot kit for exploring four-legged movement through code. It suits builders, but programmed routines are different from a pet choosing its own behaviour.

Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

How much do we really
know?

Separate our own tests from published claims and the limits of the evidence. The counts below describe records, not performance or confidence scores.

01 / The assessment

What the evidence supports.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.

Capability

What can it actually do?

The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.

Read the source-based assessment

Readiness

Could you use it in real life?

Intended use: Programmed expressive quadruped motion. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. Cat-like form does not establish autonomous pet behaviour. Board compatibility does not prove mechanical accessory fit.

A clear limit

This is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.

Know the exact robot

The name alone may not tell you which hardware, software or support you get. Keep editions and optional equipment separate.

Specifications and configuration

The figures and features below come from the named sources. They are not independent measurements. Optional hardware and conflicting revisions are kept separate.

Documented technical details and configuration limits
Item Documented detail Evidence
Controller and programming The Nybble Q manual specifies BiBoard V1 based on ESP32 and support for block programming, C++ and Python. Source 1
Voice commands The maker advertises more than 35 predefined actions and ten additional custom voice triggers, with English and Chinese command switching. Source 1
Expansion constraints Petoi’s FAQ says adding modules to Nybble/Nybble Q may require designing and printing new mounts, despite board compatibility with the dog models. Source 2

An omitted measurement is unknown in this review, not zero or unsupported. Check the exact hardware edition and documentation before ordering or designing around it.

Meet Petoi Nybble Q

This profile covers Nybble Q, not the earlier Nybble cat. The maker separates their manuals. Supplied servos, accessories and any expansion mounting must be identified before transferring a demonstration to a purchased unit.

04 / Living with it

Right robot, right expectations.

What ownership could involve

Identify the supplied servos before comparing costs or motion demonstrations. Plan a first review around setup, calibration and a small change to one movement. Record what the learner can do independently and where instructions or adult help are needed. Distinguish a voice command that launches a stored routine from a robot choosing its own task. For expansions, check both the electrical interface and the physical mounting; a module that plugs into the board may not fit the body. Confirm replacement-part identification and local support before repeated classroom use. Current warranty terms, delivered price and sustained battery operation need configuration-specific verification. Keep the original Nybble’s instructions and demonstrations clearly separate.

Support, software and repairs

Petoi provides quick-start, programming, calibration and firmware resources for Nybble Q. Use Q-specific instructions rather than wooden Nybble assumptions. Confirm battery/runtime, servo part numbers, included modules and warranty. Shared OpenCat software does not make every Petoi body or electrical part interchangeable.

Questions still open

What needs checking before you decide.

  • No independent task reliability or learning-outcome assessment reviewed.
  • Board compatibility does not prove accessory mounting or part fitment.
  • No general understanding of speech or autonomous household assistance inferred.
