Keep the conditions visible

Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

How much do we really
know?

Separate our own tests from published claims and the limits of the evidence. The counts below describe records, not performance or confidence scores.

01 / The assessment

What the evidence supports.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.

Capability

What can it actually do?

The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.

Read the source-based assessment

Readiness

Could you use it in real life?

Intended use: Wheeled training-data collection. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. Gen 8 must not inherit older Phoenix dimensions or standalone-hand results. Its data role does not establish household service.

A clear limit

This is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.

Know the exact robot

The name alone may not tell you which hardware, software or support you get. Keep editions and optional equipment separate.

Specifications and configuration

Technical reference

Specifications and configuration

The figures and features below come from the named sources. They are not independent measurements. Optional hardware and conflicting revisions are kept separate.

Documented technical details and configuration limits
Item Documented detail Evidence
Gen 8 documented changes Sanctuary says Gen 8 improves camera coverage, resolution, telemetry and audio/video capture, while simplifying manufacture and commissioning. These are comparative maker claims without numerical test results in the announcement. Source 1
Unresolved hand revision The current hydraulic-hand page describes 17 degrees of freedom and forthcoming pilot programmes. It does not establish which hand revision is fitted to each Gen 8 platform or prove whole-robot readiness. Source 3

An omitted measurement is unknown in this review, not zero or unsupported. Check the exact hardware edition and documentation before ordering or designing around it.

Revision focus

Updated depth/vision cameras, telemetry and sensor/audio-video systems.

The exact model and configuration

The exact model

Meet Sanctuary AI Phoenix Generation 8

The manufacturer explicitly names Phoenix Generation 8 and describes a wheeled base. Keep this distinct from earlier Phoenix embodiments and from Sanctuary’s standalone hydraulic hands and software running on other robots. The retained announcement has no visible publication date; its relative timing is not used to invent one.

Right robot, right expectations.

What ownership could involve

Treat access as a research or enterprise enquiry until the exact hardware and commercial terms are evidenced. Before a trial, obtain the base, arm and hand revisions, software release, control modes, operator staffing and training requirements. Establish whether demonstrations are teleoperated, autonomous or mixed, and how intervention is logged. Request a description of where captured camera, audio and telemetry data goes, who can access it, whether it is reused for training and how it is retained. Confirm commissioning, battery maintenance and, where applicable, maintenance of the supplied hand or other hydraulic components, plus spare-part supply, incident procedures, support territory and the cost of software and remote assistance. No current Gen 8 purchase price, delivery commitment, warranty or UK service route is verified here.

Support, software and repairs

This generation is described as a data-capture and training platform with manufacturing improvements. Do not import numerical specifications from Phoenix Generation 6 without an explicit version match. Exact Gen 8 dimensions, mass, battery, payload and service terms require a dated manufacturer specification and project quotation.

Questions still open

What needs checking before you decide.

  • No generation-specific height, mass, payload or runtime is carried over from older Phoenix profiles.
  • A demonstration on a standalone hand or a third-party industrial arm is not evidence that Gen 8 performs the same task.
  • The manufacturer’s explanation for choosing wheels is a design rationale, not independent proof of safety.
  • No task sequence was watched; current physical configuration and support remain unresolved.
