Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

How much do we really
know?

Separate our own tests from published claims and the limits of the evidence. The counts below describe records, not performance or confidence scores.

01 / The assessment

What the evidence supports.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.

Capability

What can it actually do?

The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.

Read the source-based assessment

Readiness

Could you use it in real life?

Intended use: Guided public-space interaction. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. A maker museum account is not independent sustained-service evidence. Record task control, staffing and failures.

A clear limit

This is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.

Know the exact robot

The name alone may not tell you which hardware, software or support you get. Keep editions and optional equipment separate.

Meet MagicBot Gen1

MagicLab names this model MagicBot Gen1 and lists D1 separately. Its 42-active-DoF Gen1 is distinct from wheeled D1 and Z1. Do not merge earlier unnamed MagicBot or Xiaomai records without evidence connecting their exact version.

04 / Living with it

Right robot, right expectations.

What ownership could involve

Confirm the exact software version, installed hand, charger and setup equipment, and whether the hanger is supplied. The maker FAQ refers to hanger-assisted recovery and support for joint faults; obtain the full manual and operator training. Map routes and review glass or reflective surfaces before use. Ask which voice and camera data leaves the robot, where it is stored, and whether the system works during an outage. Request warranty, replacement battery and joint support, software updates, service response and UK compliance documentation. No public price verified; UK supply and terms remain unverified as at 27 October 2026.

Support, software and repairs

The manufacturer describes joint-level and motion-controller SDK access, sensor data, voice functions and OTA updates. The eleven-degree-of-freedom tactile hand is optional. Confirm delivered hands, SDK licence, lifting/support equipment, repair destination, battery supply and warranty. Maximum torque and walking figures are manufacturer claims, not independent safety or endurance tests.

Questions still open

What needs checking before you decide.

  • Do not equate the manufacturer’s museum story with independently verified sustained routine service.
  • Individual task control mode, attempts and interventions remain unknown.
  • Exact hand configuration and source specifications may vary; confirm ordered revision.
  • No blanket safety certification or parts interchangeability is established.
