Sphero says indi follows instructions represented by colour tiles without a device, and the Edu Jr app can change the responses using blocks.
Source 1Sphero indi
A small learning robot that follows coloured tiles. It suits early coding without a screen; the activities are set sequences rather than general room navigation.
Recorded specifications, with their source limits. These are not our measurements. See all specifications and configurations

Three proposed tasks. Ten attempts at each suitable task, with the outcome, time and human help recorded. Confirm the exact robot, software and safe setup first. These tasks are not evidence that this robot can do them.
Complete one documented learning activity
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Repeat the activity from the same starting setup
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Change one permitted setting and repeat the activity
Proposed task. 0 of 10 attempts run.
Pick a square to see what each attempt will record.
We will record the outcome, time, control mode, human help, safety stops, exact hardware and software, conditions and full video.
Proposed attempt; not run Only proceed if the exact unit supports the task and the setup is suitable. Keep remote control, scripted operation and autonomous operation separate. A completed attempt alone does not prove autonomy. What each square will show
Keep the conditions visible
Name the control mode, surface, object or prompt and every intervention. Ten attempts are an initial result, not proof of long-term reliability.

Capability and readiness are separate. These written findings are not a numerical rating or a physical test.
Capability
What can it actually do?
The specific maker claims and any independent observations are listed below. We have not run our own task tests on this robot.
Read the source-based assessmentReadiness
Could you use it in real life?
Intended use: Colour-tile sequencing. Dependable everyday use has not been established by the evidence reviewed. Physical colour instructions and app reprogramming are different activities. General navigation and learning benefits are unproven.
Read the source-based assessmentThis is a research profile based on the sources below, not a hands-on test. Maker claims remain attributed to the maker; they do not prove repeatable performance in your home or workplace.
02 / Can it actually do it?
The claims, with their context.
The wording below keeps each source’s limits. A demonstration, a maker’s claim and a repeatable real-world result are different things.
Check the original sources
Every source keeps its original check date. Manufacturer information, research configurations and independent observations have different limits.

| Control and programming | Sphero says indi follows instructions represented by colour tiles without a device, and the Edu Jr app can change the responses using blocks. | Source 1 |
| Kit variants | Sphero’s captured kit guide says its Student Kit includes 20 durable tiles and its at Home Learning Kit includes 30 colour cards. Confirm the current offer and exact pack. | Source 2 |
| Sensor limitations | The maker says low battery, a dirty sensor or outdated firmware can cause missed colour cards. | Source 3 |
An omitted measurement is unknown in this review, not zero or unsupported. Check the exact hardware edition and documentation before ordering or designing around it.

04 / Living with it
Right robot, right expectations.
What ownership could involve
Keep tiles clean and complete, and use the official materials for consistent readings. Set aside floor space and compare the screen-free activity with optional app use. Assess colour accessibility and whether a learner can identify and correct a missed instruction. Regional support and replacement availability need checking. Use a short route with a known expected action at each tile, then record every missed or repeated response. Change one condition at a time so that the learner can connect a change with its effect. Screen-free sequencing and app-based changes are different experiences; a family may value one without needing the other. Do not infer learning improvement from finishing a colourful course. Compare the actual kit contents before choosing a pack, and keep any demonstration using extra tiles labelled as an expanded setup.
Support, software and repairs
Do not write on or laminate cards: colour changes and reflections can affect sensing. Durable tiles have separate cleaning instructions. Confirm robot charging/runtime, pack contents and warranty with the exact kit. Ordinary coloured paper is experimental rather than guaranteed equivalent to the supplied colours.
Questions still open
What needs checking before you decide.
- No independent evidence of reading accuracy, learning outcomes or battery endurance.
- Physical tiles and app-dependent reprogramming serve different activities.
