Home robots

Home robots are opening up new ways to explore companionship, play and learning. More capable domestic robots are also being developed, but a useful robot at home starts with a clear job and realistic expectations.

Robodromo’s Homes sector follows this developing market. We help you understand the options, compare supplier information and ask the right questions about UK availability and support.

Companion robots, play and learning

Companion robots focus on interaction: responding to you, showing expressions, playing games or helping you explore robotics. LivingAI’s EMO is one example of a desktop robot pet built around interaction and entertainment. Features vary by model and software version. See LivingAI’s EMO information.

For learning at home, start with the user’s age, interests and confidence with programming. Consider setup time, adult supervision, compatible devices and the quality of the learning material. Explore educational robot kits.

Household helpers: what is still emerging?

A robot that can handle varied household tasks is a different proposition from an interactive companion. For example, 1X describes its early NEO offer as having basic autonomy, with scheduled remote supervision for unfamiliar, complex tasks. That distinction matters when assessing a demonstration. Read 1X’s current NEO description.

Ask what works without remote assistance, which tasks are supported today and whether the offer is a delivered product, a trial or a pre-order. A manufacturer’s announcement does not establish UK availability.

Before choosing a robot for your home

  • Purpose: name the interaction or task you actually want.
  • Your space: check floor types, thresholds, stairs, charging and how children or pets share the area.
  • Privacy: ask about cameras, microphones, cloud processing, remote access and deleting recordings.
  • Ongoing cost: include subscriptions, accessories, batteries and repairs.
  • UK support: confirm delivery, warranty handling, replacement parts and the effect of any service shutdown.

Home robot questions

Can a home robot do the housework?

Check the exact task and product. A companion robot is not automatically a household helper. Ask for evidence of the task being completed in a comparable home, including any human assistance.

How do I check whether a robot is available in the UK?

Ask for written delivery and support terms for your location. Check whether you are buying a current product or joining a pre-order programme.

Robot examples to explore

Small desktop robots can offer a first step into interaction and programming. They are not general household helpers; check age suitability, supervision and the exact software package.
